November 5 - Wise Words
by Audrey Bauman
Proverbs 18: 4,15, and 20 NLT
4 Wise words are like deep waters;
wisdom flows from the wise like a bubbling brook.
15 Intelligent people are always ready to learn.
Their ears are open for knowledge.
20 Wise words satisfy like a good meal;
the right words bring satisfaction.
Now, there are three beautiful statements! Wise words linked to deep waters and a bubbling brook. What a picture comes to mind. I visualize the person who is listening attentively, with that calm, yet alert look on their face. Or when we're trying to figure something out - getting wise advice is like a satisfying meal; that meal that makes you want to sit in a comfy chair and relax.
My dad was a person with wise words. Over my lifetime, whenever I wasn't sure about what to do about some situation, I'd ask him. He gave such good advice. When God took him home, it left a huge hole in our lives. I also love having friends who I trust, friends I can share problems with, know they will be kept secret, and I get good guidance.
But where does the best wisdom come from? You're right. It's God. And how do I get that advice? By reading his word and praying. Yet, is that what I actually do? Do I spend time with God every day looking for his guidance? Or do I just ask my friends, or figure it all out by myself? That makes me stop and think. Does it make you stop?
Our song for today is Perfect Wisdom of Our God by Keith and Kristyn Getty.
