What kinds of things tend to make you the most happy/excited? What was the first thought that came to mind? How immediate was the love of Jesus in your thoughts?

Matthew 13: 44 - 46 ESV

The Parable of the Hidden Treasure

44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered

up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

The Parable of the Pearl of Great Value

45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46 who, on

finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

Discussion Questions

1. When have you pursued something, thinking it would bring lasting joy, only to find the feeling was temporary?

2. When did you decide to follow Jesus, become a Christian? What brought you to that decision?

3. What made your conversion so memorable? Describe the joy you felt - or are still feeling when you finally found the treasure of finding and following Jesus?

4. a) What do you love about being a Christ follower?

b) What are your favourite verses that express the reason you love Jesus so much?

5. a) Have you given anything up after following Jesus? Why? Was that easy or difficult?  Explain.

b) Are there any things you are still doing that you think you might have to give up - you realize they may be disrupting your relationship with Jesus?

6. As a believer, how have you been distracted by the cares of life today that give you anxiety/worry and draw you away from pursuing your life with Christ? Make a list of those things - and figure out an action plan to get rid of one or more of those things.
